Witness and Service Commission Teams
The vision for ABLAZE! as established by our synod is:To see many people who do not have a church home become growing members of a faith community, like Holy Cross. The purpose of the team at Holy Cross is to coordinate various Ablaze outreach efforts into a “whole” movement and attitude.ABLAZE! ministry is a movement of the laity. And, to do the planning and implementation of all areas of the ABLAZE! vision.
Help new people more comfortably and effectively integrate into our church. We are seeing many new members come in which provides a challenge to help them find their role within the church. The purpose of the Assimilation Team is to more intentionally respond to that challenge.
This team’s mission is to share God’s love and the Good News of Jesus Christ with our friends and neighbors. To help get that good news out, our puppet team goes to club houses, community centers, parks and other organizations in our neighborhoods and workplaces. We welcome invitations to come visit!
The Blessing Place (Nursery):
Provides coordination of our “Blessing Place” Nursery center. Schedules, trains and encourages volunteers who care for children three and under during regularly scheduled worship services and Sunday morning Bible study.
Meets in the church office area to write notes of appreciation, make a friendly phone contact to worship guests, write care notes, or prepare letters of welcome to people new to our community or other specialized mailings.
Church & School Marketing:
Also coordinates with the Day School Commission striving to establish and enhance the church and school’s image in the community, to serve in a supportive role to publicize church and school events targeted to the public, and to monitor, review and plan advertising and marketing projects.
Human Care Ministry:
Our Human Care Ministry strives to help our church respond in appropriate and effective ways to basic human needs while communicating the love of Christ. “We love because He first loved us. If anyone says, ‘I love God,’ yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. And He has given us this command: Whoever loves God must also love his brother.” (1 John 4:19-21) Ministries include: Monthly homeless meals, Homeless ministry resources, Thanksgiving and Christmas outreaches, expecting mother’s outreach and more!
Lutheran Women’s Missionary League:
L.W.M.L. believes God’s vision for their ministry is to bring Christ to the lost by supporting missionaries and by inviting others to know Him. To follow Jesus’ example in serving God and the needy by providing an outlet for more women to participate in LWML. To provide fellowship personally and socially with other women. To provide opportunities for Christian growth in prayer, Bible study, encouragement, and the lifting up of each other. See their link for more information.
Service in Christ for Seniors in Need:
This ministry brings caring to a personal level so a people in our community can remain in their home. It uses able bodies to address some of the tasks seniors are no longer able to do. Consideration is given to all requests and volunteers are then recruited.
Special Events Team:
Various one-time events for the purpose of: training our congregation in specific methods of outreach, educating our congregation about specific needs and opportunities, and events designed to attract friends and neighbors. One example is our Second Saturday meal and fellowship which follows the Saturday evening service.
University Lutheran Center:
The University Lutheran Center (ULC), supported by local LCMS churches, provides encouragement, Bible study activities and a place to unwind across the street from WSU. It also offers tremendous opportunities to reach out to students – especially international students. The staff at ULC can provide information about being a language partner as well as other ways you can be supportive.
Strives to educate, inspire and enlist our church in the global mission of sharing the Good News of Christ.
