“The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my Savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety. I call to the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved!”

Psalm 18: 2-3

As we’ve watched the Coronavirus spread, we remember that God is our refuge & strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1).  The Holy Cross team continues to be in prayer & discussion to seek the Lord’s leading on the best next steps for our church. We will continue to monitor all updates from the CDC & other health outlets as we stay flexible to modify our schedule & ministries until the current public health crisis subsides and we can gather together again.  As decisions are made regarding weekly events & Worship at Holy Cross we will continue to update you here as well as through email & social media.

Words of Hope & Comfort from God's Word

May 22 | Update & Words of Hope & Comfort

A Word of Comfort and Hope from God’s Word

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s might hand, that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.”  1 Peter 5:6-7

We pray…. Dear Lord Jesus, without Your working in me I can never humble myself. The devil knows how easy it is to lead me into sinful pride and worry when things aren’t going the way that I want them to go, and sometimes even when I think that I need for them to go my way. Forgive me, as You promise, and strengthen my faith in trusting in You. Give me patience, especially in these trying times of “social distancing” and yet re-opening of public spaces. Thank You for my health and that of so many others.  Give wisdom and direction to those who make decisions that affect so many people. As You remind me of how much You care for me and all people, fill me also with Your love and care of others.  In Your precious, name I pray.  Amen.

+  This weekend (May 23-24), we will be celebrating Communion after listening to the Parking Lot radio broadcast on Sunday morning (11 a.m.) (Communion will NOT be served Saturday at 6 p.m. or Sunday at 8:15 a.m. this weekend.) Call the church office (684-5201) for more information. Thanks to James and Steve Copeland who make the radio broadcasts possible.

We will resume our “normal schedule” on Saturday evening (6:00 p.m.) and Sunday mornings (8:15 and 11:00 a.m.). Watch for more information each day – next week – in the “Word of Hope!”

She writes: “Hi, I am Ellie Mackowski, and I am very excited to be here at Holy Cross. I am from Scottsdale, Arizona and I am going to be a junior at Concordia University, Seward where I am studying to be a DCE and an elementary school teacher.”

+  Please give thanks for the teachers and staff now that the school year has officially ended.  Thanks be to God for technology and how all the parents, teachers and students worked together!  A “Worship Service in Celebration of Lutheran Education” is being planned for June 2.

+  We give thanks for Seminary Graduate Matthew Bohlmann… after his recent 3-day visit to Wichita and Holy Cross. He has rented an apartment and will be moving to Wichita in mid-July. We thank God and welcome soon-to-be-Ordained Pastor Bohlmann!

May 21 | Update & Words of Hope & Comfort

A Word of Comfort and Hope from God’s Word

Today we celebrate the Ascension of our Lord – 40 days after Easter  “The disciples were looking intently into the sky as He was ascending, when suddenly two men dressing in white stood beside them. ‘Men of Galilee,’ they said, ‘why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen Him go into heaven.’ ”  Acts 1:10-11

We pray…. Dear resurrected and ascended Lord, we are comforted in the words You gave Your first disciples through the angels – promising Your return.  We are comforted and thank You for Your promise just before You ascended, “I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Help us to live our lives expectantly, knowing that at any time You may be coming again, as You promised, to take all of Your dear children – those of us still living in this world and all who have died in the faith – to the heavenly home You have prepared for all who love and trust in You. In these last days, give us the zeal of Your first disciples to share this good news with others, as more come to know You also as their Lord and Savior.  Amen!

A Word of Comfort and Hope from God’s Word

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.  Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”  Philippians 4:4-6

We pray…. How hard it is sometimes, Lord to rejoice! Especially as the stay at home and social distancing is so hard! Thank You that our rejoicing is in You and not in our circumstances. Give us Your gentleness as our patience grows thin, especially now that school is finished and we look to a unique summer. Rather than worry, fill us with Your hope and joy as we focus all that we do and say in our relationship with You. Thank You that we can ask You, thank You and praise You for everything,  Amen!

A Word of Comfort and Hope from God’s Word

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.”  (2 Corinthians 1:3-4)

We pray…. We have so much for which to be thankful, Lord! Forgive us for the times that we focus on our troubles rather than on Your great compassion and overflowing blessings! As our country and community begins to open up again, give us wisdom and discretion, concern for others and understanding as You comfort us in all our troubles so that You work through us to comfort others also with Your love and blessings.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen!

A Word of Comfort and Hope from God’s Word

In the Psalms, God Himself whispers to us, invites and encourages us to listen and to trust in Him… “Be still, and know that I am God….” (Psalm 46:10)

We pray…. “Lord, there is so much “noise” around me and within me these days that it makes it hard for me to know what/who I should listen to, believe in or trust! In the midst of all the “tumult,” help me to be quiet; to listen; to hear You speaking to me in pure words of love and truth. According to Your grace, grant me safety, security, and the peace that passes all understanding when my heart and mind are focused on Christ Jesus, my Savior and Lord! In His dear Name I pray. Amen!”

A Word of Comfort and Hope from God’s Word

Our strength, hope and confidence, like that of King David, come from the Lord our God! Along with David, we say, “The Lord is My strength and My shield; in Him My heart trusts.” (Psalm 28:7)

We pray…. “O Lord, I do trust in You, but there are days and times when both my courage and trust waver. Forgive and strengthen me, O Lord, by Your presence and through Your trustworthy Word. When I am weak and uncertain, give me the faith and courage to believe that You are indeed my strength and shield! Free us by Your almighty power from this pandemic. According to Your perfect will, keep me and my loved ones safe. I ask all this, humbly, in the precious Name of Jesus. Amen!”
