CONFIRMATION

“See what great love the Father has lavished on us that we should be called children of God.”

1 John 3:1

What is Confirmation?

We, at Holy Cross, seek to support parents in their God-given responsibility through our Confirmation Program. This is a portion of the Baptismal Service of a child at Holy Cross:

Pastor:     After this child has been baptized you have the privilege of remembering them in your prayers, of reminding them of their Baptism, and, as much as in you lies, giving your counsel and aid, that they may be brought up in the true knowledge and worship of God and be taught the Ten Commandments, the Creed, and the Lord’s Prayer. As they grow in the years ahead, place in their hands the Holy Scriptures. Bring them to the worship services of God’s house, and see that they are instructed in the Christian faith so that they may receive the Sacrament of Christ’s Body and Blood. Then as they live in their baptismal grace and in fellowship with the Church, they may be empowered to lead a godly life all to the praise and honor of Jesus Christ.

Pastor:       Will you commit yourselves to doing all of this gladly and willingly? If so, then answer “yes, with the help of God.”

Parents and Sponsors:  Yes, with the help of God.”

Youth Confirmation is a special time when both congregation and families can team together to help the confirmands develop a greater understanding of God’s Word and its application for their daily lives. It is a time when they discover more fully what Lutheran Christians profess.

Our Confirmation program consists of parents and confirmands studying together, followed by small group time for students, and time for parents to reflect on the lesson for the evening. These classes meet every other Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 8:45 pm except during Advent and Lent.
